Pre-emption with or without Pre-task Planning: A Probe into L2 Lexical Diversity

The current study, setting a two-fold goal, attempted to see whether the preemptive focus on form (FonF) under either planned or unplanned conditions could contribute to increasing lexical diversity in written narratives and, second, to find whether there was a trade-off between the lexical diversity and accuracy. To this end, 32 beginner learners were selected following a Quick Oxford Placemen...

Improvement on Diversity Gain with Filter Bandwidth Enlargement in Fractional Sampling OFDM Receiver

A diversity scheme with Fractional Sampling (FS) in an OFDM receiver has been investigated recently. Through FS, it is possible to separate multipath components and obtain diversity gain in OFDM systems. Enlargement of the bandwidth of the total frequency response between transmit and receive baseband filters allows the FS scheme to achieve path diversity. However, the transmit filter has to be...

Mathematical consideration of Phase-Matching bandwidth, effective nonlinear coefficient and the walk-off effect for LiGa(SexS1-x)2 nonlinear crystals by using Genetic algorithm

In this paper the Phase-Matching bandwidth, effective nonlinear coefficient and the walk-off angle within the effective bandwidth of the LiGa(SexS1-x)2 biaxial nonlinear crystals are calculated using the Genetic algorithm (GA). This calculation is held for all tree principle XY, YZ and XZ planes individually. The results are shown the accuracy of the applied algorithm is quite qualified.

Design of robust carrier tracking systems in high dynamic and high noise conditions, with emphasis on neuro-fuzzy controller

The robust carrier tracking is defined as the ability of a receiver to determine the phase and frequency of the input carrier signal in unusual conditions such as signal loss, input signal fading, high receiver dynamic, or other destructive effects of propagation. An implementation of tight tracking can be understood in terms of adopting a very narrow loop bandwidth that contradict with the req...

Studies on Trade-off Between Throughput and Reliability in Wireless Systems

In the first part of the thesis, we study the trade-off between the transmission reliability and data rate in high signal-to-noise ratio regime in ad-hoc wireless networks. Bandwidth allocation plays a significant role in this trade-off, since dividing bandwidth reduces the number of users on each band and consequently decreases the interference level, however it also decreases the data rate. N...
